Anna Ol (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) joined Dutch National Ballet as a principal in 2015. She grew up in Krasnoyarsk, the third largest city in Siberia, and began her ballet training at the age of ten. In 2003, she joined the Siberian State Ballet in Krasnoyarsk, where she immediately made her debut in one of the most demanding ballet roles, that of Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty. Since then, she has danced with various companies, including the State Opera of Tatarstan, the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Dantshenko Academic Music Theatre in Moscow, where she performed all the major roles in the classical ballet repertoire, as well as collaborating with master choreographers like Jiří Kylián, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, John Neumeier and Jerome Robbins.
Anna won gold at the Grand Prix Galina Ulanova in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) in 2008 and at the Arabesque competition in Perm (Russia) in 2010. In 2018, she was named ‘Best dancer of the year’ in the British Critics’ Choice and won the Miss Virtuosity Prize at the Dance Open Festival in St. Petersburg.
As a guest soloist, Anna has performed at various international ballet galas. In 2017, she also performed with the Semperoper Ballett in Dresden as Manon, in Kenneth MacMillan’s widely acclaimed ballet of the same name, and in 2018 she was a guest principal with the Staatsballett Berlin in a reconstruction of La Bayadère by Alexei Ratmansky.
