Elisa Carrillo Cabrera is the first Mexican who has won the three most important awards in the dance world: Benois de la Danse, The Soul of Dance of Russia and the Dance Open International Ballet Festival in St. Petersburg. Since 2011 she is principal dancer of Staatsballett Berlin, one of the ten most relevant companies in Europe.
She is member of the International Dance Council of UNESCO, co-artistic director of the Sir Anton Dolin Foundation and Ballet Teacher, grade obtained by the Cultural Ministry of Germany and the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart. In Mexico she is cultural ambassador, director of International Dance Festival Danzatlan and since 2019 co-artistic director of the National Dance Company.
She has danced on the biggest stages of the world, by her ability to bring characters to life with her interpretation of the most emblematic and innovative ballets while working with great choreographers, such as Boris Eifman, Nacho Duato, Angelin Preljocaj, John Crancko, Alexander Ekman, Marco Goecke, Marcia Haydee, John Neumeier, Kenneth Macmillan, Mauro Bigonzetti, Mats Ek, Vasily Medvedev, Vladimir Malakhov, Alexei Ratmanski, Christian Spuck, Uwe Scholz and others. Frequently, she was invited to dance in the Kremlin Gala in Moscow.
Elisa Carrillo has received different prizes and awards both in Mexico and abroad thanks to her career, her work in the art of dance and in favor of culture through the Foundation named after her.
For example, in 2012 Mexico’s State Government (one of the 32 states in the country) –where she was born– created in her honor the Scholarships “Elisa Carrillo Cabrera” and named after her the concert hall of the Mexiquense Bicentennial Cultural Center.
In 2016 she received the Medal of Fine Arts, the highest award given by the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico. Her most recent international prize is the Petipa Heritage Fund obtained in Slovakia in 2019 to recognize she preserves and promotes the legacy of the French-Russian choreographer Marius Petipa.
Elisa Carrillo studied in the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance in Mexico and in the School of the English National Ballet in England. From 1999 to 2007 she was part of the corps de ballet and then soloist of Stuttgart Ballet.
