Born
in Grimsby and trained locally with Phyllis and Hilda Skinns and later
with Louise Browne. Joined London Festival Ballet (later known as
English National Ballet) in 1974, and was quickly promoted through
the ranks to become Principal Dancer in 1978. She performed most of
the leading roles of the company including Princess Aurora in Nureyev's
production of Sleeping Beauty and Juliet in his Romeo and
Juliet, La Bayadère and Odette/Odile in Makarova's
productions of Swan Lake, Swanilda in Coppélia,
Giselle, the ballerina role in Etudes and the Sylphide
in Schaufuss' production of La Sylphide. She has also danced
the lead in several different productions of The Nutcracker and
Cinderella.
She left London in January 1991 to take up the post of Ballet Mistress
with the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. From 1994 until 1997
she was deputy to the ballet director. Whilst in Berlin, she worked
on several opera productions with Götz Friedrich and travelled
to Finland, Sweden, Japan, and Israel in order to restage some of
them.
Since July 1997 she has been working as a freelance teacher and
coach, principally with La Scala Milan, Staatsoper Berlin, Semperoper
Dresden, and Northern Ballet Theatre and English National Ballet
in the U.K. She has also staged Peter Schaufuss' production of La
Sylphide at La Scala and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
