Yat Sen Chang studied dance and teaching at the Cuba National
Ballet School, beginning his studies at the age of nine. In 1989
he graduated as a dancer and teacher and joined the National Ballet
of Cuba under Alicia Alonso.
While with the company he toured to Brazil, Colombia, Argentina,
Mexico, Peru and Bulgaria and in 1992 he was invited to the International
Dance Festival of La Baule (France). He joined Jeune Ballet de France
in the same year and performed in Poland, Mongolia, China, Vietnam,
The Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand.
His repertoire includes Flower Festival in Genzano, Le Corsaire,
Don Quixote, Diana and Actaeon, Tchaikovsky pas de deux, Paquita,
Coppélia, Flames of Paris and Puppet.
Yat Sen has won many prestigious awards during his career including
the Best Partner at Varna (1990), Gold Medal in Trujillo (Peru)
and he reached the 1993 finals of the Contemporary Dance Competition
in Paris.
Yat Sen Chang joined English National Ballet in September 1993.
His roles with the Company include in The Sleeping Beauty (Bluebird)
and The Nutcracker (Gopak). He has danced roles in Paquita
(Act III) and Dances From Napoli, Franz in Hynd's Coppélia
and Mercutio in Nureyev's production of Romeo and Juliet.
In 1994 he created a role in Mauro Bigonzetti's X.N.Tricities.
In Alice in Wonderland Yat Sen has created the role of the
White Rabbit.
