Tamara has a classical dance training, as solid as eclectic.
She started at the school of Victor Ullate in Madrid, and completed
her training with David Howard and Renato Peroni.
Le Figaro highlighted the freshness and extreme youth of Tamara,
who at 20 won the Gold Medal and Critics' Award by unaminous
vote of the prestigious Paris concourse of 1994, with a jury
which included Makarova, Vassiliev and Samsova.
Two years later, the prestigious Italian critic at Nervi named
her Best Dancer of the Year.
From the beginning of her professional career, Tamara Rojo has
undertaken diverse roles that require great interpretive maturity.
Amongst others, the neo-classical choreographies of Hans van
Manen, Nils Christie and Jose Pares' adaptation of Coppélia
created to show Tamara's technical virtuosity.
With the Ballet de la Comunidad de Madrid her repertoire mixes
the classical technique with her profoundly Spanish roots. She
excelled in roles such as Arraigo, Arrayan and the roles created
for her by Victor Ullate, Volando Hacia la Luz and Concierto
para Tres.
In 1995, invited by Galina Samsova of the Scottish Ballet, she
danced Swan Lake (Odette/Odile) and in 1996 The
Nutcracker (Sugar
Plum Fairy) and in the spring of 1997 La Sylphide and Cranko's
Romeo and Juliet.
The Ballet of the Opera of Nice invited her as guest artist
during the summer of 1996. She appeared in Nice, Genova and Granada's
Festival where she danced The Three Cornered Hat and Blue
Danube.
In April 1996 she danced Nascita de Orfeo of Vegetti/Pizzi,
created for her by Ente Lirico (Arena de Verona, Ballet/Opera
in one act, music by Lorenzo Ferrero).
With English National Ballet, during the Christmas season of
1997, the London public saw her in the newly created role of
Clara in Derek Deane's production of The Nutcracker. The London
Coliseum broke all audience records and The Times named Tamara
'Dancer Revelation of the Year'.
As principal Dancer of ENB, Tamara's roles include Aurora (The
Sleeping Beauty), Glen Tetley's Sphinx and Voluntaries, Michael
Corder's Cinderella, Odette/Odile (Swan Lake), Paquita,
Coppélia,
Etudes, The Sugar Plum Fairy in Derek Deane's The Nutcracker.
She created the role of Juliet in Deane's production of Romeo
and Juliet and Clara in Deane's production of Nutcracker and
Christopher Hampson's Perpetuum Mobile and Preludes. She also
danced the role of the Chosen Maiden in Kenneth MacMillan's Rite
of Spring.
She achieved a great success of both critic and public during
ENB's tour to Hong Kong and Australia as well as at the Albert
Hall for her interpretation of Odette/Odile in Deane's production
for the round.
In July 2000 Tamara danced Giselle with the Royal Ballet at
Covent Garden.
Since joining the Royal Ballet she has performed at Covent Garden
Odette/Odile (Swan Lake), Tudor's Shadowplay, Kenneth MacMillan's
